The Ol’ Sports Talker glad it‘s finally over!.
The Brett Favre saga that is. For weeks now He said he was coming, then he wanted to be traded. The Packers Powers said no, then yes, then we will offer you money. In the end, the Commissioner’s office said to settle this thing!
Now Brett Favre is a JETS! Hopefully when we look back onto this season in February, Brett will be singing, It’s not easy being Green! Written by Joe Raposo. It's not that easy being green;
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves.
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold...
or something much more colorful like that.
It's not easy being green.
It seems you blend in with so many other ord'nary things.
And people tend to pass you over 'cause you're
not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water
or stars in the sky.
But green's the color of Spring.
And green can be cool and friendly-like.
And green can be big like an ocean, or important like a mountain,
or tall like a tree.
When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder why?
Wonder, I am green and it'll do fine, it's beautiful!
And I think it's what I want to be.
I took in my first AAA baseball game in almost 8 years. Why, that’s a long story, but I finally did! I had a great time! As I have said before, I much rather watch a minor league game than any major league game. The players still play for the fun of it. Even thought the Charlotte Knights lost to the Durham Bulls, 8-2, I have a great time. Minor league ball doesn’t last much past the first of September, so if you haven’t gone to a game, now’s your chance. Whether it’s the Indianapolis Indians, or some other minor league team, go see baseball the way it was meant to be played.
Also the best time of the year is starting. Football Season, is upon us. Preseason ball is here, and we will see which of our favorite rookies will make our team and which veterans will be cut lose. I have never participated in a Fantasy Football league. I have a friend who runs like 6 plus teams in different fantasy leagues. I would find it hard at cheering for some one other than an Indianapolis Colts player to do well. I bought a new COLTS hat for this season to break in. Hopefully it will bring them luck!
I have to end this Blog on a sad note. The passing of Skip Carey. Skip was the long time announcer of the Atlanta Braves. I remember watching the Braves on TBS in the late 80’s. They weren’t a very good team. I remember it, because they were playing ht Chicago Cubs in the old Fulton County Stadium. It was late in the eighth inning and there were still a fair number of fans in the stands. Skip pointed out that he was proud of the fans remaining to despite the Cubs beating the Braves so badly. He then added that of course the fans remaining we all Cubs fans, but he was happy to see them stay until the end. Skip, we will miss you, God Bless.
Before you know it, Summer will give away to Fall and the games will be for real. This is the Ol’ Sports Talker saying, be and athletic supporter!
